Blackeyed peas bring luck. Greens (turnip, mustard, or collard) bring money. I have no memory of a New Year's Day without either, save one. We were shooting in Australia, and blackeyed peas were completely unavailable. The following year, while not devastating, was actually a little lean. The next year, again shooting in Austrailia over New Year's, I packed some canned peas to take with me.
Here, we'll be eating fresh greens, and dried peas. Along with rice, pork chops, and cornbread, if I get that far. The peas take priority. Cooking begins tomorrow evening, and the food is ready just after midnight. If you live in a place where you can't find fresh stuff, I highly recommend Sylvia's. She owns the premiere soul food restaurant in Harlem - a place I spent a lot of time in when I lived in New York, because it was a connection to home. Her canned peas and greens are as real as real gets.
Of course, this has nothing to do with advertising. Wait... yes it does.
Study the market. Learn the mind of the customer. Listen. Think. Think Hard. Think some more. Plan. Think some more. Think up something nobody else has yet. Take a chance. Embrace change.
Do it differently. Execute perfectly. Put it out there.
Then...wait for luck.
Happy New Year.
